Business Analyst

The role of the Business Analyst is to gather and document requirements for medium to large sized web-based application development projects, then manage associated projects to a successful conclusion. Responsibilities will include working with client stakeholders to gather product and technical requirements and coordinating internal team efforts to ensure delivery of high quality applications and releases.

This position will be based in Troy, MI, with some local and regional travel (mid-Michigan, northern Ohio, northern Indiana) to work on-site with clients.

Job Description

  • Conduct requirements gathering sessions with client stakeholders using interviews, document analysis, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, workflow analysis
  • Translate requirements into technical, functional and non-functional specifications
  • Identify data sources for system integrations, create data flow diagrams and process documentation
  • Determine which type(s) of documentation are appropriate to the project and develop documentation as needed (i.e. Business Requirements Documents, Functional Specifications, User Stories, etc.)
  • Serve as the liaison between the client and internal teams (design, development, quality, delivery)
  • Manage project milestones and task breakdowns with internal teams
  • Manage project budget, risks, status; appropriately inform and escalate as required
  • Collaborate with and guide designers, developers, QA testers and other internal stakeholders to deliver quality products on time and on budget
  • Assist with development of test plans and documentation required to ensure adequate quality testing
  • Assist with and/or guide development of business analysis best practices and standard documentation templates
  • Some travel to client sites may be required

Qualifications

  • Experience effectively managing technical web-based application development projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to clearly articulate complex business and technical requirements in a variety of formats
  • Experience working directly with clients, including managers and subject matter experts, as well as internal teams
  • Detail-oriented with strong organization and prioritization skills
  • Experience working on and managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Working knowledge of multiple SDLC methodologies and ability to make strategic recommendations on best approach
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Aptitude for strategic thinking and ability to make critical recommendations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Office and Visio
  • Working knowledge of software and hardware technologies used in application development

Major Plus (Not Required)

  • Experience working with Microsoft technologies (.NET, SharePoint, Team Foundation Server, etc.)
  • Account and relationship-building experience, including demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and grow business relationships

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience writing technical and business specifications
  • 5+ years of BA/PM experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous work in a web-based application development environment
